Meet Josh

Who Is Josh Gunderson Anyway?

Hi. I’m Josh Gunderson.

I’m a writer, storyteller, former educational speaker, mall marketer, cruise enthusiast, cat dad, and lifelong collector of weird little experiences that somehow keep turning into stories.

For reasons that remain unclear, I’ve been putting pieces of my life on the internet for over twenty years. Long before social media existed, I was building Animorphs fan sites on Geocities and discovering that sharing my thoughts with strangers online was either a terrible idea or the beginning of a lifelong habit.

The jury is still out.

Over the years I’ve worn a lot of different hats. I’ve been a bartender, aquarium educator, cat groomer, grocery store manager, publicist, author, speaker, and currently work in marketing and leasing for a shopping mall in Central Florida, which is somehow every bit as strange as it sounds.

Along the way I’ve written a few books, spoken to audiences across the country, completed a couple of marathons, survived countless questionable decisions, and accumulated enough stories to keep me busy for the foreseeable future.

These days you’ll usually find me writing about nostalgia, travel, pop culture, queer life, internet absurdity, malls, books, cruise ships, cats, and the strange experience of being a millennial who remembers when the internet was mostly just people making weird websites because they felt like it.

That’s really what Somewhere With Regret is.

Not a brand.

Not a business.

Not an attempt to become an influencer.

Just a collection of stories, observations, adventures, and occasional existential field notes from someone trying very hard to romanticize the collapse.

Some posts will make you laugh.

Some might make you think.

A few will probably make you wonder if I’m doing okay.

The answer is usually “more or less.”

Thanks for stopping by.

I’m glad you’re here.
